COURSES DESCRIPTION

MATH / Mathematics

MATH 090 Foundation Course in Math 3 Credits
Foundation Course in Math is a remedial course intended for students who need assistance in math skills. It is a non-transfer course intended for students lacking preparation for college-level math courses. Students will be introduced to basic arithmetic and algebra which will help and enable students to further their math studies at the college level. Strategies for dealing with common mathematical problem areas and ways for improvement will be taught. The focus of is to help students attain the necessary Math competence for college students.

MATH 110 College Algebra 3 Credits
College Algebra develops a variety of skills and techniques for making precise and accurate calculations relevant to everyday experiences. A complete overview is given through the use of set theory and number structure. Emphasis on studying practical problems with the help of mathematical models will be applied.

MATH 120 Statistics 3 Credits
Prerequisite: College Algebra
Statistics introduces and makes students aware the use of statistical tools in real life business situations. They are taught to compute mean, median, mode and standard deviation of the group data. In addition the course focuses on instructing the probability approach that is needed to formulate, solve and interpret real life business problems. Students are also exposed to different real life business scenarios with a major emphasis on the analysis and interpretation of the data.

MATH 220 Pre Calculus 3 Credits
Pre-Calculus continues as a foundation in its relationship to College Algebra. This course is a pre-requisite to the study of Calculus which when properly presented with College Algebra, proves to be a solid base for students continuing on in further upper division math courses. In order to complete the course successfully, students must have had some basic algebra preparation.

MATH 240 Calculus 3 Credits
Prerequisite: Pre Calculus
Calculus I introduces the differential and integral calculus of functions of a single variable and provides a deeper understanding of functions as both processes and entities. Students will develop a working understanding of the central calculus concepts (CCCs) limit, derivative, and integral work to interrelate the CCCs. Students will work with calculus topics from a graphical, numerical, and algebraic point of view. The course will allow students to establish connections among calculus topics and “real world” applications. In addition students will be able to achieve the level of mathematical understanding required for further study of calculus.

MATH 241 Discrete Mathematics 3 Credits
Prerequisite: College Algebra Discrete Mathematics is an introduction introduces elementary concepts in logic, set theory, and combinatory. Important concepts, techniques and structures will be taught in order for students to understand the basic groundwork in the computer science field.
