MGMT / Management

MGMT 110 Principles of Business Administration 3 Credits
Principles of Business Administration illustrates the complexities of managing a business to students. The course will include the structures of business, functions of different departments, labor relations and law. Students will analyze the corporate as a profit venture organization by virtue of its ability to provide customers with products and services.

MGMT 200 Quantitative Techniques for Business 3 Credits
Prerequisite: Statistics
Managers of different types of business organizations - private or public sector, manufacturing or service - need to make decisions about how the organization's resources should be allocated. Information to make these decisions will often be quantitative/ numerical, and today's managers should be able to appreciate how to assess, analyze and utilize it. The course aims to show the student some of the methods and techniques which have been usefully applied to quantitative information.

MGMT 210 Research Methods 3 Credits
Prerequisite: Statistics
This course focuses on the role of research in business, qualities of good research, creating the research proposal, problem identification techniques, types of research, sources of business information, schedule and questionnaire design, sampling theory, report writing, and research ethics.

MGMT 220 Management of Information Systems 3 Credit
This course introduces students to the crucial role technology plays in the management of data and information in most structured and logical manner.
The five primary types of data in today's information systems include predefined data items, text, images, audio, and video. Traditional business information systems contained only predefined data items and text. More recent advances in technology have made it practical to process pictures and sounds using techniques such as digitization, voice messaging and teleconferencing.
Management of all these data types along with the necessary information canbe done by an electronic system called “Information System”.

MGMT 230 Business Management 3 Credits
Prerequisite: Principles of Business Administration
Business Management introduces concepts of management, the role of managers, management techniques and development of teams and groups within an organization. Students will be taught to understand the decision making process, organizational structure, and practice of management with emphasis on multiculturalism, social responsibility and ethics.

MGMT 231 Business Policy and Strategy 3 Credits
Prerequisite: Statistics
The module aims to be integrative and cumulative in that it draws together the purposes and methodologies of the functional areas of business policy and strategy which are usually studied separately and to show how they contribute to the overall purposes and aims of the organization.
This synthesis is usually considered in relation to the environment in which the organization exists and with reference to a timescale projected into the future. The challenge for the student is to analyze complex organizations and their environments as well as the relationships between the two and evaluate models and methodologies against observations of the practices of real organizations. The module will particularly cover policy making in organizations which operate in an international arena.

MGMT 240 Organizational Behavior 3 Credits
Prerequisite: Principles of Business Administration
This course covers individual differences and personality traits, perception and attribution, motivation, rewards, high performance teams and groups, conflict and negotiation, communication, leadership, organizational culture, structure, jobs and job design, power and politics, careers and socialization, organizing change, models and processes.

MGMT 250 International Business Management 3 Credits
Prerequisite: Business Management
This course introduces students to the challenges of doing business in a globally integrated marketplace. The course focuses on the key disciplines of business, as they adapt to cultural, political, legal, economic and logistical dimensions of operating an enterprise in an international milieu.

MGMT 251 Operations Management 3 Credits
Prerequisite: Principles of Business Administration
Operations Management is the process of measuring and controlling the value
Chain to insure the maximization of value added to inputs in creating product
(Goods and services).The course will examine a series of case studies, qualitative techniques, and quality management approaches employed by contemporary organizations to insure the greatest efficiency of staffing and production capacity, inventory, quality, information, and distribution. The course takes a qualitative approach to understanding operations management issues and a quantitative approach to solving operational problems.

MGMT 260 Project Management 3 Credits
Prerequisite: Research Methods
Project Management is designed to provide students with an exposure to different aspects of project management. Students will be able to strengthen competencies through participation in a variety of occupational experiences, ranging from routine assignments to specialized work-related duties. The course provides students the chance to develop their skill and integrate theoretical learning with practical applications.
