Internships

ECMIT will offer an internship for three credits for students who have a personal interest in gaining some applied perspective and experience in a community-based organization; agency or business. This applied experience could be related to the student's academic studies in business or information technology or it could involve knowledge and skills developed through general education or elective study in the arts and sciences.

Internship generates an educational experience that gives the student an opportunity to apply the classroom learning to the workplace, expand professional skills and earn academic credit. Internships can help students to choose a meaningful career, plan for graduate study and find a job by giving them first hand experience in a particular field of interest.

Internship prepares the students for social work in the management and community service organizations. The course provides practice opportunities for skill development and the integration of theoretical leanings from the accompanying management and community practice methods. The student is placed by the college in a public or private social agency with a field instructor who is a manager or administrator. The student is assigned tasks or projects, most of which stem from the normal course of agency activity. The student and field instructor jointly develop the student's learning contract for the semester, specifying objectives, key indicators and relating task assignments and projects.

Placement

ECMIT students have the choice of either going on to the advanced stages of education in a number of countries around the world, or going straight into employment having gained the knowledge and experience of best practice for the work place. The placement planning process for students begins when the students are to complete 45 credit hours of their studies. Students are asked to complete and return placement planning forms and photographs along with their Resume. The information thus collected is used to prepare the Placement Brochure. The placement process continues based on the stated interests, choice of concentration and the desired location. Referrals are based on placement availability and also on the previous work experience of the students. Certain part-time and full time jobs are posted on the notice boards and resumes of interested and selected candidates forwarded to the employers.
